Read the description of a proposed transport concept and answer the questions. Distinguish the proposal from an operating service.
A proposed transport concept
This passage describes an imagined long-distance journey using ET3, short for “evacuated tube transport technology”. It is a proposal, not an operating route between New York and Beijing. In the example, travelling by plane and waiting at airports takes at least 20 hours. The proposed capsule journey might take only 2 hours.
The design would use a long tube with very little air inside it. Six people could sit in a capsule powered by electricity instead of gasoline. The proposal imagines speeds of about 6,500 kilometres per hour, compared with an example passenger aircraft flying at about 800 kilometres per hour. These are the figures used in the proposal, not measured speeds on an operating ET3 route.
Air resistance slows moving vehicles. Removing most of the air from the tube would reduce this resistance. The proposed capsules would also be light. The design would still need extensive development, testing and safety approval before passengers could make such a journey.
Đề bài
Why could the proposed capsules move very fast, according to the passage?
Hướng dẫn giải
**Lời giải:**
**Because the tube has very little air, reducing air resistance, and the capsules would be light.** Không khí ít hơn giúp giảm lực cản; bài còn nêu khối lượng nhẹ. Đây là lý giải của thiết kế đề xuất, không phải vận tốc đã kiểm chứng của một tuyến đang chạy.
